All About Iman Khatib
As a fine artist based in Northern California, Iman Khatib is always looking for the next opportunity to translate life experiences into art. Even at a young age, Ms. Khatib showed an interest in the unique approach of many artists and yearned for a chance to break into the art industry herself. Through inspiration from her surroundings, she is able to bring life to her artwork while making a lasting impression. She would love to work with you in the future, so please be in touch if you have any questions about commissions and the like.
MEETÂ IMAN KHATIB
Welcome to the portfolio of Iman Khatib. It is a thrill for you to discover her work, skills, and professional experience. One of the defining principles of this up-and-coming artist is a deep commitment to helping establish an open dialogue between the viewer and the artwork itself. Each piece is meant to be interpreted differently by each individual. Take a moment to look through the gallery, and get in touch for more information.
Sketchbook Pages
Here are some glimpses into my workbook. As you can see, I start with a concept or two and from there I can search for references that will better allow me to bring that concept to life. Then, I begin the sketching process. Though it is not the most enjoyable part of the painting process, it's a necessary step which allows me to see what my the sketch will look like on a canvas. Take a peek at my gallery page to see what works of art made it past the drawing board!

(Paintings are in order from most recent to oldest.)
"Fish Out of Water"
24" x 30"
This is my most recent painting and I went back to my concept with a sea creature. In this case, however, the whale is me trying to figure life out as time moves too quickly for me to feel like I can rest in one place. This painting also appeared in the Granite Bay Administrative Show.
"Safehaven"
24" x 30"
This is one painting I thoroughly enjoyed painting because the concept came from one of my fears, but I was able to transform that fear into a beautiful piece of artwork. The house is placed in a lightbulb underwater because I love the ocean and that's where I feel lightest and most at peace. However, I am afraid of sharks, so by placing one outside of the house, it serves as a reminder that we all have a safe place where we are untouchable.
"The Beginning"
24" x 30"
This painting was a bit out of my comfort zone. I had never done water, I had never done a lightbulb, I had never done flowers, and I had never done a realistic sky or detailed mountains. Basically this painting was going to be hit or miss. Nevertheless, I believe this painting came out better than expected and I especially like the depth achieved in the sky and the mountains.
"Bitter Frost"
24" x 30"
Here is my one and what will be my only snow landscape painting. There I went painting things I had never painted before! I originally thought that snow would not take very long, but the perfectionist in me came out to blur every line and smooth over every unnecessary stroke of the brush. Although this painting turned out okay, it has earned a spot in the "do not disturb" pile as I don't believe I will be painting snow for a while.
"On a Whim"
24" x 30"
Et voilà my very first acrylic painting. Looking back on this is amusing because I must've taken at least two weeks on that sky and I can't believe how far I've come. I remember scrambling to finish within the deadline I had set for myself and finally deciding to add the Kelly Vivanco subject you see here to create a presence and to tie the whole painting together.
"Jump"
Airbrush and Prismacolor
This work has an airbrush background with a Prismacolor colored pencil subject and lightbulb. The rock and position of the subject suggest that the subject is contemplating plunging into the unknown and the light is meant to show him the way and direct him where he wants to go. The lesson here is that sometimes we have to take risks to truly be sure of ourselves and the path we are on.
Self Portrait
24" x 30" on cardstock
This piece is a graphite self portrait and my first and largest graphite piece.
All of my artwork is meant to be interpreted by You and to relate to your life in the way you feel it is meant to. Art itself is meant to make you feel something whether that may be adventurous, or sad, or excited, or curious. I hope you enjoy the work I have produced. If so, feel free to contact me!
